Broadlands Piranhas Weekly Update, June 1 - June 7
Good morning Piranha families,
Although we had a cold and rainy start to our swim season, next week's forecast is looking sunnier and warmer! Here are some reminders for the upcoming week.
Time Trials
For all swim team members, time trials will be held at the Southern Walk pool this Saturday, June 7. You must declare your swimmer's events by Wednesday, June 4. Minis swimmers should not declare for the meet. The theme for the meet will be Piranhas Team Spirit so be sure to show off your Piranhas t-shirts, hats and other spirit wear!
Unlike other meets, there are no limits for individual events for Time Trials and swimmers are encouraged to swim as many events as they are legal in to get seed times for the upcoming season. If you have questions, please reach out to Coach Rylie.
Questions on how to sign up your swimmer or volunteer for a meet? Check out this help article for detailed instructions or reach out to a board member with any additional questions.
Practices
Our afternoon practices continue for team members (not minis) Monday through Friday at the Community Center pool. Please see the times below:
| Age Group | Practice Time |
| 9-10 | 3:30 - 4:15 pm |
| 11-12 | 4:15 - 5:00 pm |
| 7-8 | 5:00 - 5:30 pm |
| 5-6 | 5:30 - 6:00 pm |
| 13 + | 6:00 - 6:45 pm |
Practice Reminders
- During the first week or so of practice, use a sharpie put your swimmer’s name on their arm, back or cap. We have over 240 swimmers and the coaches are doing their best to learn their names
- Please sit on the north end of the pool, towards the pool house, and away from the lanes and coaches (as best as possible as the community pool has less space)
- Do not go up to your swimmer or a coach during practice
- Bring all your equipment to practice. This includes goggles, fins and a cap or at least a hair tie for long hair
- Do not record/video practices - you can record/video your swimmer in a meet but not at practice
- During practices and swim meets, swimmers (and their siblings) are NOT allowed in the shallow end of the pool or in the baby pool. This is a safety issue as there are no lifeguards on duty during our practices
Weather alerts
Our website allows us to send alert notifications directly to team members via the SwimTopia mobile app. In the event of thunderstorms, if we need to cancel practices we will send out mobile alerts as well as emails. Please download the mobile app to ensure you get these notifications.
Minis Evaluations
We will be holding evaluations for our minis swimmers tomorrow, Monday, June 2. The evaluations are to ensure that our minis swimmers have basic swim skills so that everyone can be safe during our minis practices, which will begin on Monday, June 16.
Please bring your minis swimmers to practice at the Community Center at 5 pm on Monday. Please have swimmers in their suits with goggles and fins, ready to swim. If you are unable to make the evaluation tomorrow, please reach out so we can schedule an alternative time.
