Piranhas Summer 2026 Update
Hello Piranha families! It may still be winter, but registration for the Summer of 2026 is just around the corner. Here are a few important updates:
Coaches
We are thrilled to announce Neal McElhattan as our head coach! Neal brings extensive experience from Machine Aquatics and the McLean Swim & Tennis Association, with a lifelong background in competitive swimming, including NCAA Division I.
We will also need assistant and junior coaches. If you have a swimmer 15 years or older who is interested in coaching, please have them submit an application by 11:59pm on 1 March, 2026.
Volunteer Needs
There are a few committee chair and co-chair spots available . These positions fulfill your family’s entire volunteer requirement for the season and there is lots of help available to newcomers. If you are interested, please reach out to Kate Amstutz for more information.
Registration Dates
2 March at 8:00am: Registration opens to returning HOA families. A private registration link will be sent via email only to returning families. Returning HOA families are encouraged to sign up early as spots do fill up quickly.
16 March at 8:00am: Registration opens to new HOA families. A link will appear on the Piranhas website for new families to create their accounts and signup.
13 April at 8:00am: Registration opens to families outside the HOA (both new and returning). A link will appear on the Piranhas website.
Outside families are required to purchase a pool pass for Summer 2026. Please reach out to [email protected] or visit Pools – Non Residents | Broadlands HOA in Virginia to learn more. This is required for all non-residents who want to join the swim team.
Registration Info
The competitive team is open to swimmers aged 5 - 18. A minis program is available for ages 4 - 8 who can swim independently. Swimmers will be evaluated during the first week of practice.
Residency is verified by the HOA and strictly enforced. Registrations that do not meet requirements will be voided and refunded. If you have any questions about requirements, please reach out to Ben Spain at [email protected].
Board Changes
Finally, we would like to thank Anne Cather and Chad Ellinger for their years of dedicated service to our wonderful swim team as they have both decided to take a well-deserved break from the Piranhas board. Cat Loughran and Ben Spain will be stepping into the roles of president and secretary.
More updates coming soon. Swim fast!
